Junior (2019): Joella played in 15 matches for the Buffs in 2019...she helped out in seven of the Buffs’ eight shutouts on the season…Joella scored her lone goal in CU’s 4-0 win over Northern Colorado and played a season-high 37 minutes…Joella played a total of 19 minutes in CU’s two NCAA Tournament games.
Sophomore (2018): Joella played in 245 minutes in 15 matches. She had three points on the season, recording a goal and an assist...Joella’s goal came in CU’s 6-0 win over Missouri...she picked up her assist in the next match against UTSA...Joella totaled seven total shot attempts, including two on net.
Freshman (2017): Joella made 19 appearances as a reserve striker, helping the Buffs reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and break the school records for shutouts (14) and goals against average (0.61)...She scored one goal and had six shot attempts, including two on goal. In 297 minutes on the pitch during the season, the Buffs outscored their opponents 4-1...Joella scored her first career goal in the 62nd minute of a 6-1 win at Denver on Sept. 16, heading in a cross from Megan Massey.
ODP: Joella was a member of the 2012 ODP state travel team.
Club: Joella played for Real Colorado in Centennial, Colo., for coach Lorne Donaldson. Real Colorado was ranked as the No. 6 club in the country and all of its ECNL teams reached the playoffs and/or national championships in 2016.
High School: Joella was a four-year letterwinner at Mountain Vista High School where she played for coach Theresa Echtemeyer. As a senior, she led Mountain Vista to the state championship and was named Class 5A second-team all-state after scoring 14 goals and adding six assists. Joella scored the first goal in a 3-1 win over Arapahoe in the state championship game. She led the team to the state finals as a junior, scoring 16 goals and adding three assists and totaled 44 goals in her four seasons. She was a second-team all-state selection as a junior and earned all-Continental League honors three times and led the conference in goals and points as a junior.
In the classroom: She plans on majoring in education and is also interested in communications. She enjoys working with kids and may be interested in a career as a teacher or a coach.
Personal: She was born Katie Lynn Joella on May 3, 1999, to Daniel and Karen Joella. She also has two younger sisters Hannah and Grace, who also play soccer. She enjoys music and fashion. In her spare time, she volunteers by coaching 4-5 year-olds through Real Colorado’s “Cubbies” program and also coaches special needs kids through TOPS (The Outreach Program for Soccer). She has two cats and a Chihuahua and loves animals and shoes. She chose Colorado because it has “great coaches with a soccer program on the rise, unbelievable facilities, terrific admissions, and it’s located in Boulder, the greatest city in the country. It just doesn’t get any better.”
