HEMPEN ON HICKS: Mel is on the roster but physically unable to play due to a back injury.
SENIOR (2010): Hicks sat out her final season due to a back injury.
JUNIOR (2009): Hicks played in eight games after being out with a back injury during the beginning of the season.
SOPHOMORE (2008): Hicks saw action in all 23 games for CU as a sophomore and started on four different occasions. She was one of three Buffs to record a multi-goal game as she notched a pair of goals against Oklahoma, just six minutes apart.
FRESHMAN (2007): Hicks finished her freshman campaign with one goal and three assists after seeing action in all 22 games, including nine starts. Her first career goal came in CU's NCAA first round match against Hawai'i, helping the Buffs advance to the second round. Hicks recorded two assists in the 4-0 win over Nebraska, tying her for first in the Big 12 for most assists in a single game, a record which she went on to hold for the remainder of the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Hicks was a four-time letterwinner at Thomas Jefferson High School. As a senior, she scored 13 goals with seven assists and earned first-team All-League and All-State honors as her Raider team went 12-5-2. She was also a first-team All-League and second-team All-State selection as a junior, scoring 23 goals and dishing five assists, and was named the South Puget Sound League Player of the Year. Hicks was the team's leading scorer and MVP as a senior and as a sophomore. Thomas Jefferson went 48-20-7 with Hicks on the pitch, and she finished her high school career with 58 goals and 16 assists. A two-sport athlete for the Raiders, Hicks also lettered three years with the track team posting a 61.0 400m, 2:26 800m, and 5:25 mile. Hicks was also a member of the Washington Premier FC team that advanced to the 2004 and '05 Washington State Cup Semifinals and were 2006 runner-ups. Hicks played on Washington's State ODP team in 2003 and '05. Hicks also was a four-year honor society member and the vice president of TJHS Letter Club.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Hicks is a business marketing major at Colorado.
PERSONAL: Melissa "Mel" Hicks was born on Sept. 23, 1988 in Seattle, Wash. She is the daughter of Jim and Kim Hicks and the older sister of Spencer. Her father, Jim, played basketball at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Her hobbies include playing the guitar and snowboarding, and she also enjoys writing and composing songs on both the guitar and piano.
