Aiu on Dykstra
Devon comes to CU with a great volleyball pedigree. Her club program won Las Vegas her senior year and her high school program has been one of the top in California for a long time. My expectation is that Devon will raise the level of ball control right away and she may see time on the outside as well.
High School
Dykstra earned three letters at Redondo Union High School. Her sophomore through senior years the Seahawks were CIF Finalist and won the league championship her junior year. As a senior, Dykstra was named to the CIF and Bay League First teams. She was also named the Co-MVP of her team. Dykstra was named a second team All-American her junior season and once again she was a member of the CIF and Bay League first teams. As a sophomore she was a second team selection for the CIF and first team for the Bay League. The biggest moment of her high school career was hitting the winning point in the fifth game of the CIF Championship past Alex Klinemant who was the best 6-4 player in the country. Dykstra also lists winning the Junior Olympics U18 Beach Championship with her sister Lara against the two players of the year from 2007. She was also recruited by Portland, UC Irvine and Oregon.
Personal
Devon Ashley Dykstra was born on October 5, 1990 in Tarzana, Calif. She is the daughter of Joe and Lisa Dykstra of Hermosa Beach, Calif. She has three sisters, Jenna, Lara and Skylar and one brother, Joey. Jenna, 23, was a four year setter at Davidson. Joey, 20, is a junior on the volleyball team at USC. He also plays on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour in the summer. Lara, 15, was a member of the U.S. U19 Beach Volleyball team which competed in Holland and is listed as one of the top 10 liberos in the U.S. in high school. Skylar, who is in eight grade, also plays volleyball. Her father was a member of the basketball team at Western Illinois and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1983. Dykstra lists her hobbies as skiing, reading, biking and shopping.
Academics
Dykskra intends to major in education at Colorado and is also interested in real estate. She was a member of the honor roll in high school.
