COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNED BY AIR FORCE 1-0
October 22, 1996 | Soccer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The University of Colorado women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 contest to the Air Force Academy Falcons here Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first-year Buffalo squad to 4-8-1 (2-5 Big 12) in its inaugural year of competition.
Although Colorado owned a 13-6 edge in shots in the game, and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal, only Air Force could claim the shot that mattered most: a quick chip-in goal by Jen Weatherspoon off an assist from Julie Moore at 30:22 elapsed.
Two restrictive defenses took control of the game from there, and the single goal was enough to give the Falcons the victory.
Next up for the Buffaloes will be four straight home contests to close the regular season. The first two of that set against Big 12 rivals Kansas (Friday) and Missouri (Sunday) - could go a long way toward determining the sixth and final entrant in the first-ever Big 12 tournament Nov. 7-10.
Nebraska (15-0, 7-0 Big 12), Texas A&M (15-2, 7-1) and Baylor ( 12-1-1, 5-1-1) have already earned berths in the tournament, with Texas Tech (11-5, 4-3) and Texas (6-6-2, 4-4) knocking on the door. Missouri (4-10, 3-4), Colorado and Kansas (5-10, 2-5) are all on the bubble.
As with all of Colorado's home games, Friday's 3 p.m. MDT game against the Jayhawks and Sunday's 1 p.m. MST contest versus the Tigers will be played at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in north Boulder. Both games will be free and open to the public.
