COLORADO FALLS TO TEXAS A&M 3-0
October 04, 1996 | Soccer
BOULDER, Colo. -The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 8 Texas A&M Friday, unable to recover from a furious first-half offensive surge by the powerful Aggies.
Â
Texas A&M's Bryn Blalack opened the game's scoring at 14:22 with a driving goal from the top of the box, and was quickly followed by teammate Yvette Okler, who added an unassisted ricochet off the left goalpost to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead at 23 :05. Tina Robinson added the final A&M goal at 44:30 on a header assisted by Julie Pinkerton.
Â
Colorado was, however, able to shut down the vaunted Aggie offense in the second half, holding Texas A&M scoreless in the stanza and holding the final margin to 3-0.
Â
"In the first half we made some mistakes that cost us goals," Colorado head coach Austin Daniels said. "When you play a team at this level you can't afford to make mistakes or they punish you."
Â
Still, Daniels said, he has reason to be upbeat about the current state of his team.
Â
"I thought we played tough and hard the whole game," Daniels said. "We need to play more teams of this caliber to get better. They expose you and make you get better."
Â
Colorado will return to the game field Sunday, when they square off against No. 20 Texas at 1 p.m. MDT. The game, to be played at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder, is free and open to the public.
