COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 2-1 TO TEXAS TECH
September 13, 1996 | Soccer
LUBBOCK, Texas -The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Texas Tech University here Friday in the first-ever Big 12 Conference game for the fledgling Buffalo squad.
After a scoreless first half marked for Colorado by several sparkling saves from keeper Nina Bjornstad, the Red Raiders drew first blood on a goal with 54 minutes elapsed. Colorado answered with an unassisted goal from Jennifer Worcester with 74 minutes elapsed, but Texas Tech struck 12 minutes later (and with only four minutes left on the game clock) for the game's final score.
"We've improved since the beginning of the season," head coach Austin Daniels said, "but we still have some work to do. We're disappointed with the loss, but we are looking forward to taking the field again against Baylor (on Sunday)."
"We were hoping to win our first Big 12 game to prove to the conference that we aren't a typical first-year team," Daniels said. "That will continue to be our goal."
Daniels and the Buffaloes will square off against Baylor at 12 p.m. MDT in Waco, Texas, on Sunday. The team will then return home to challenge Wyoming Sept. 25 at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder.
