COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO COLORADO COLLEGE
October 01, 1997 | Soccer
BOULDER, Colo. -Â The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Colorado College here today, turning the Buffs' first home game in nearly a month into anything but a sweet homecoming.
Â
"Colorado College is a very good team," Colorado head coach Austin Daniels said, "but we've played good teams a lot this year. We just didn't step up the way we needed to."
Â
The first of Colorado College's three tallies on the day came in just the game's third minute, when Martina Holan followed up a shot by teammate Kasey Clark, put the ball just beyond the reach of diving Colorado keeper Sloane Cox, and gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Â
Colorado's defense then held Colorado College in check for the rest of the first half and well into the second, but the Tigers exploded with two late goals, one on a follow by Haley Miller at 71:30 and the other a second score for Holan in the game's 86th minute.
Â
All told, Colorado College outshot the Buffs 22 to 7 on the day.
Â
"We're not happy with our performance," Daniels said. "We just didn't get enough numbers forward. They are a good team and we have to be able to step it up against good teams. We should have been able to pressure them a bit more and step up the pace of the game."
Â
Next up for Colorado will be a Sunday game at Wyoming, scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. MDT.
