UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO SOCCER FALLS TO TEXAS 3-0

October 18, 1998 | Soccer

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's soccer team ( 4-8-2, 1-4-1) fell to the University of Texas ( 4-6-2, 2-1-2) here today to extend their winless streak to four in a row, tying a school record.

"We just have to do a better job of taking advantage of the chances when we get them," said Coach Austin Daniels. "I'm very disappointed. We didn't play well and obviously didn't get the result. They had a good game. They play a tough schedule, and their record does not reflect how good they are. Every team in the Big 12 is good. There's no team we play where we can go in knowing we should win."

The Longhorns got on the scoreboard in the first half when Valerie Page dribbled a ball 30 yards and finished in the lower right comer of the net at the 32:05 mark of the match. Colorado native Bonnie McAuliffe was the next to score for Texas, finishing a cross from former Cherry Creek standout Katie Baruth to put the Longhorns on top 2-0 at the 58:07 mark. Baruth rounded out the scoring for Texas seven minutes later when she finished a ricochet off Colorado's senior goalkeeper Sloane Cox at the 65:38 mark.

The Buffs were led on the scoresheet by freshmen Suzy Kiefer and Heather Zonker with three shots apiece. Cox pulled in 10 saves on the day to Texas' three saves by junior Cami Varnadore.

Colorado plays the University of Denver on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in a "bragging rights" match for the top Division I program in the state. The match pits several former Colorado high school standouts against one another, most notably the battle between former Arapahoe H.S. standouts Zonker and Kiefer of CU, and DU's Jody Hasemeyer. The Buffs then travel to Texas to take on Texas Tech on Friday, Oct. 23 at 3:00 p.m., and No. 18 Baylor on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12:00 p.m.

The Buffs return home for their final two matches of the regular season the following weekend, facing Kansas on Friday, Oct. 30 at 3:00 p.m., and Missouri on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. All Colorado women's soccer games are played at Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder and admission is free. PVSC is located at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway in North Boulder.
