COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES TEXAS TECH 0-0 TO END FIVE-GAME LOSING STREAK

October 23, 1998 | Soccer

LUBBOCK, Tens. - The University of Colorado women's soccer team (4-10-3, 1-4-2) tied Texas Tech University (6-5-3, 3-3-2) today in double overtime to end a five-game losing streak. Senior goalkeeper Sloane Cox pulled in 10 saves on the day to lead the Colorado defensive effort.

"We picked it up quite a bit in the second half and carried that into the overtime period," said coach Austin Daniels. "We didn't have to make many changes, but the intensity of our play just picked up. However, we have not scored a goal in 11 consecutive halves and an overtime, which needs to change for the Baylor match. They are a good attacking team, we just need to get some goals.''

The first half largely belonged to Texas Tech as the Raiders managed nine shots to Colorado's one, the lone Buff effort taken by freshman Katie Fleming with five minutes remaining in the half Tech's Jennifer Hamm generated most of the offense for the Raiders with five shots in the half, three on goal. Colorado picked things up offensively in the second half, generating four more shots.

"I think we definitely picked things up in the second half, and even more so in the overtime period," said sophomore midfielder Maris Dillman. "It took a reminder before second half that our season could be over in a matter of days for us to really start playing. We were winning balls, playing to feet and more importantly doing it all as a team."

Colorado found new life in the overtime period, virtually dominating the Raiders and controlling the majority of ball possession in the half. Dillman led the Buffs offensively, netting three shots on the afternoon. Despite ending the five-game skid, Colorado continued its scoreless streak currently sitting at five consecutive matches without a goal, and six consecutive matches without a win.

Colorado now heads to Waco to face No. 17 Baylor on Sunday, Oct 25 at noon. The Buffs then return home for their final two matches of the regular season the following weekend, facing Kansas on Friday, Oct. 30 at 3:00 p.m., and Missouri on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. Preceding the Missouri match, CU will honor its senior class of Cox, Teri Fildey and Lauren Kulmann. Immediately following the match, the Buffs will be on hand for team photo autograph day.

All Colorado women's soccer games are played at Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder and admission is free. PVSC is located at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway in North Boulder.
