Golf Finishes Ninth At Landfall

Wilmington, N.C. - Senior Erin Kerr shot a 54-hole 221, just seven strokes off the lead, for a share of fourth place while the Buffs finished ninth after holding on to that ranking following the first two rounds at the Landfall Tradition Women's Golf Championship here Sunday.
Tulsa, who was sixth after the first round and third after the second, carded a tournament low 287 in today's final round to come from behind and claim the team title with a three-round 893, three strokes ahead of Florida State (896). Wake Forest's Nuria Clau held on to her first-round lead to claim medallist honors with a 71-71-72-214, just a stroke ahead of Florida State's Kristin Tamulis (215) and followed by Christine Fernandez (220) of Tulsa. Kerr shares her fourth-place finish with Purdue's Heather Zielinski and Mississippi State's Sofie Andersson.
"Erin really played the way that she's always been capable of playing," complimented Kelly. "I'm hoping that she carries the momentum of coming off three straight top-five tournament finishes to finish the fall season strong."
Along with Kerr, Lynn Ann Moretto was another constant in the out-of-region field, inching her way up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 35th with a 79-80-78-237 scorecard.
"This tournament had a much different look than the ones we've been playing all fall. This was great, different competition. It was also a nice change to play on a different golf course. The eastern courses have different grass, more trees, they play a little longer being at sea level," said Kelly.
Allison Rella and Maria Persson Gulda rounded out CU's scorecard with a 54-hole 241 and 242, respectively, while Jolene Fellhauer struggled throughout the tournament with a virus. "Maria is so close. She's hitting the ball really well, she's just not converting the scores."
The Buffs close out the fall slate Nov. 11-13 at the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown. They will take a three-month hiatus from competition before christening the spring portion of the schedule Feb. 24-26 at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson.
"The Las Vegas tournament will be the toughest regional field we will have seen so far this season," said Kelly on next week's competition. "With one tournament left this fall I'm hoping that we can play our par 5's better and that we can three or four people playing well at the same time. That's something we've struggled with all fall."
