Hogan 11th In Super-G At WUG

TARVISIO, Italy - University of Colorado skiers continued to fare well in the most recent results from the 2003 World University Games held here this week.
On Tuesday, freshman Brad Hogan posted Team USA's best finish in the Super-G, claiming 11th in a 1:45.90 time. Russia's Sergeij won the gold medal with a convincing victory, as his 1:43.01 time was a full second better than Slovakia's Ozbi Oslak, who had won the gold in the downhill on Sunday. Senior Jed Schuetze placed 34th in a 1:48.43 time, while sophomore Tyler Shepherd skied off the course in his second run and did not finish. Seventy-eight skiers completed both runs.
"The guys did great again," said Hogan. "Nobody on our team has skied the Super-G in over a year. And these guys [competitors] train all the time. We're excited for the remaining two races, because that's what we excel in and hopefully we can get a medal or two." The USA has not won a skiing medal at these games, but also wasn't expected to.
The women's giant slalom is next up on Thursday, with CU freshman, Erika Hogan (Brad's younger sister) seeded No. 17 out of 94 skiers set to compete, the highest American seed. Junior Mia Cullman is seeded No. 24, and another Colorado frosh, Amy Beresford, is seeded No. 27.
The men's giant slalom follows on Friday, with the women's slalom Saturday and the men's slalom Sunday to conclude this year's games.
"Brad is skiing well, but if he can medal remains to be seen," said CU head coach Richard Rokos, who is the USA team leader for these games. "While there are a lot of the world's best competing here, he is among them. It would not surprise me to see him or any of our skiers on the podium after the GS or slalom races."
