Shepherd 11th In GS At WUG

TARVISIO, Italy - University of Colorado sophomore Tyler Shepherd finished 11th here in the giant slalom, the best second finish posted by an American in the race as the 2003 World University Games continued Friday.
Shepherd was 16th after the morning run, but posted the eighth fastest time in the afternoon to record a 2:43.06 overall time. Slovakia's Miha Malus won by almost two seconds, as he blazed the course in a 2:39.05 time. Chris Berg was the Team USA skier ahead of Shepherd, as he grabbed ninth in 2:43.06.
CU freshman Brad Hogan was 18th in 2:43.63, while the other Buff participant, senior Jed Schuetze, did not finish his first run. Only 72 of the 121 competitors completed the course despite sunny conditions.
The women's slalom on Saturday is the final competition here for the ladies, with CU freshman Erika Hogan seeded third, the highest of any American here this week in the four disciplines (men's or women's). Junior Mia Cullman is the No. 16 seed, while senior Tove Pashkowski will start 28th in the field of 86.
The men's slalom on Sunday will conclude this year's games.
