W-GOLF FINISHES 14th AT VEGAS SHOWDOWN

HENDERSON, Nev. ?The University of Colorado's women's golf team shaved 11 strokes off its first two round scores for a final round 308, their lowest round in six loops, but couldn't overcome the play from their first two days as they would finish 14th at the Las Vegas Founders Showdown with a three-day 319-319-308-946 here Wednesday.

New Mexico held on to its lead from day one to take the team title with a 288-288-293-869, an 18 stroke lead over Tennessee (296-295-296-887). Missouri jumped from eighth after Tuesday's second round to finish third today with a 299-305-285-889. The Lobos' Katrina Meldrum took medalist honors with a 54-hole 69-72-72-213, a slim two-stroke margin over Missouri's Maria Ohlsson (71-73-71-215), who went from fifth place Tuesday to a runner-up finish today.

Maria Persson Gulda climbed 11 places on the leaderboard to finish in 35th with an 80-76-74-230, to finish as CU's low score for a fourth straight tournament.

Allison Rella recovered from her second round 87 and shaved 13 strokes off her final loop and her three day 75-87-74-236 improved the junior from 65th place after Tuesday's round to a share of 52nd today with teammate Hannah Hoch (78-79-79-236).

Freshman Regina Rodriquez (86-78-81-245) improved four places to finish 71st while Jessie Malcolm shot her best round of the tournament, 81, to match her finish among individuals with an 89-85-81-256.

The Buffs now have the next three months off from tournament competition. They open the spring season February 16 on Hannah Hoch's home course, the Turlock (Calif.) CC when they play at the San Francisco Invitational.
