MBB FALLS AT PEPPERDINE, 94-77

November 24, 2003 | Men's Basketball

MALIBU, Calif. ? David Harrison's 30-points, eight rebounds and six blocks were not enough to lift the Buffaloes over Pepperdine on Monday night as the Waves outscored Colorado 94-77, dropping the Buffs to 1-1 on the season.

For the Waves, Shaun Davis shot six for six, dealt six assists, had five steals and scored 20 points to lead Pepperdine to the victory.

“We did a good job of getting the ball into David, but I thought we should have been more patient,” head coach Ricardo Patton said following Colorado's first loss of the season. “I didn't think we got much production out of the bench tonight. We had some guys that played okay, but it wasn't the same as the other night at Northwestern. We need to get Blair (Wilson) and Michel (Morandais) some rest and have some guys who can come in and score.”

Terrance Johnson added 16 points and Jesse Pinegar 14, as Pepperdine evened its record to 1-1.

After trailing 42-41 at halftime, the Waves gained the lead in the first minute of the second half on a jumper by Glen McGowan and never fell behind again. Davis' 3-pointer midway through the second half gave the Waves a 67-57 lead, and Pinegar's 3-pointer increased the Pepperdine margin to 80-65 with 5:36 remaining.

The Buffaloes never made a serious run in the second half .

Colorado built a 41-33 lead with 1:46 left in the first half, but the Waves outscored the Buffaloes 8-1 over the remaining moments of the half and trailed 42-41 at the break. Patton received his second technical foul of the game with 2:25 to play and was automatically ejected from the game.

The Buffs return to action on Wednesday night with an 8 p.m. tip at Cal-Poly.
