BOULDER, Colo. ? Despite double-digit scoring from four players, the Colorado Buffaloes dropped their second consecutive game, a 75-62 loss to the Richmond Spiders at the Coors Events Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Colorado (6-3), which lost its Dec. 23 contest to Utah, has now lost back-to-back home non conference games for the first time since the 1995-96 season, when it dropped games against Wyoming and Iowa on consecutive occasions.
“As I stated prior to the game, I thought Richmond was a very good basketball team watching film,” head coach Ricardo Patton said. “I thought they looked better than us in a lot of ways. We've just hit a stretch where guys aren't playing well and I'm not doing a very god job of coaching them to play well.”
David Harrison led Colorado with 18 points and 11 rebounds, good for the fourth double-double of the season and 17th of his career. Lamar Harris also had a double-double turning in an 11-point, 11-rebound performance marking his first of the season, and second for his career.
Mike Skrocki of Richmond (7-5) led all scorers with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Richmond shot 66 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, and 56 percent for the game.
Colorado trailed by five at the half, 35-30, but tied the game with 17:51 remaining. The teams would trade leads until Richmond took over in the final 10 minutes going on a 26-14 run to close out the contest. The Buffs made just nine field goals in the final frame.
“All I know is we've got to continue to work, continue to identify the mistakes we're making and get better at these mistakes,” Patton said. “One of the things I know we need to get better at is coming from behind, but we need leadership on the floor ? somebody to rally the troops, because we're going to have games when we need to come from behind.”
Wilson scored 12 points, to push his career total to 999, while Glean Eddy added 11.
Today's game marks just the fourth time Colorado has played on New Year's Eve, the most recent occasion coming in 1986. The Buffs are just 1-3 on the date.
Colorado will look to get back on the winning track with a 7:05 p.m. tip on Monday, Jan. 5 against No. 13 Kansas at home. The game is ESPN's Big Monday selection and will be aired nationally.
