W-Golf In Seventh At Oregon

Junction City, Ore. - The Colorado women's golf team carded its best round of the spring season with an opening 312, and followed it up with a second round 327 on the Shadow Hills Golf Course and are sitting in seventh place with a two-round 639 at the Oregon Duck Invitational here Monday.
Washington State has a 14 stroke lead on the field with a 295-299-594, a comfortable lead over second place San Diego State (308-300-608). The Cougars' Kim Welch is in control of the par-72 layout and sits 6-under-par after a 70-68-138, seven strokes ahead of San Diego State's Shayna Miyajima (73-72-145).
All four CU players that played in last week's spring opener improved their opening round scores a week later by an average of more than five strokes and the Buffs' four scorer's are only separated by 10 strokes.
Senior Erin Kerr (75-79-154) is pacing the Buffs and is in a three-way share of ninth place with former Buff and current Portland State player Taya Battistella and Missouri's Denis Knaebel. Kerr's first round 75 is a three stroke improvement from the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
Allison Rella had the team's biggest first round to first round improvement, shaving eight in the last two weeks. She turned in a 79-81-160 and is in 31st. Just a single stroke behind Rella is Maria Persson Gulda (78-83-161) who is in 34th place. Joey Stetser sits in a tie for 45th with an 80-84-164. In her first spring tournament, Robin Worthington has sole control of 60th after a 36 hole 86-87-173.
The third, and final round of the '03 Invitational will be played Tuesday in a 9 a.m. (MST) shotgun start.
