CU Hosts Twilight

Boulder - The University of Colorado track & field team hosted it's first and only meet of the 2003 outdoor season here Thursday, the CU Twilight, on it's newly renovated track at Potts Field. Air Force swept the team titles, taking first in both the men's and women's standings. Colorado was second, followed by Wyoming and Northern Colorado.

Buffaloes took titles in 15 different events, with a number of athletes scoring NCAA regional qualifying marks for the meet later this month in Lincoln, Neb., the first of it's kind.

Colorado swept the long jump and high jump titles, as freshman Maxine Marlow won the women's long jump title, leaping 18-4.75 for Colorado's first win of the day, her second-best mark of the season. Freshman Brandon Johnson took the men's long jump with his leap of 23-7.50, the best CU jump this season. Sophomore Anna Magle won the women's high jump with her high mark of 5-6, while Andrew Miller took the men's title with his jump of 6-9.75, an NCAA regional mark.

In the throws, Andy Passen won the men's shot put with his toss of 53-3.00, a season best for the Buffalo sophomore. Chase Mullen was second in the hammer with his heave of 189-00, while Hannah Warfield-Ruffato was second in the women's javelin at 143-05.

In track action, Natalie Florence won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase with her time of 10:46.99, while Kendall Grgas-Wheeler was second in a personal best time of 11:05.31, both good for NCAA marks. Freshman Billy Nelson was first in the men's 1,500 in 4:00.24, while Deneeka Torrey scored her season best with a time of 13.99 in the women's 100 meter hurdles and ran an NCAA mark in the 400 hurdles in 61.30, her best in that event as well.

Daric Wilhite had his best race of the season in the men's 400 meters, running 47.34, good for an NCAA qualifying mark for him, followed by Chris Abuan in second place at 48.40. Samuel Napp won the men's 100 meter dash in 10.91 as well as the 200 meters in 22.04.

Senior Tera Moody ran away from the field in the women's 3,000 meters, finishing in a time of 10:18.56, almost 23 seconds ahead of second place finisher Ashley Mecham of Wyoming in 10:41.47. Jared Scott completed the CU sweep in the 3K, taking the men's title in 8:44.95. CU wrapped up the day with a win in the men's 4x400 in a season best time of 3:13.56, a three-second improvement from their previous best of the season.

Tomorrow night several Buffaloes will compete at the Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University. Events will begin at 7 p.m. MDT, and immediate results will be available at www.gostanford.com.
