COLORADO PICKS UP ROAD SWEEP AGAINST BAYLOR

WACO, Texas  ? Junior right side hitter Allie Griffin had 14 kills, six digs and five blocks to lead Colorado to a 30-25, 30-22, 30-25 sweep at Baylor in Big 12 Conference action Wednesday night in Waco, Texas.

 

The win bumps Colorado back over .500 to 13-12 overall and the Buffs remain in sixth place in league play at 8-10. Baylor drops to 12-17 overall, 4-14 in league play.

 

Griffin, who had been in a mini hitting slump averaging just .152 over the past four matches, was on fire against the Bears finishing at .591 recording her 14 kills on 22 attacks with just one error. The percentage is her best since hitting .643 against Cal State-Northridge in the second match of the season and is the 10th time she has hit .300 or better in 2004-05.

           

The middle blocker duo of sophomores Austin Zimmerman and Lara Bossow served as a solid compliment to Griffin against the Bears combining for 16 kills, 10 blocks and a .520 hitting percentage. Zimmerman had 11 kills, a team-high six blocks and hit .471 (11k-3e-17att) while Bossow, the Buffs' leading blocker, had four blocks and hit .625 recording five kills on eight attacks with no errors.

 

Sophomore setter Ashley Nu'u had 40 assists, passing 1,000 for the season, marking the 15th time a CU setter has accomplished the feat.

 

Baylor was led by Kelly Spriggs' nine kills. Colorado held the Bears to an overall hitting percentage of .084 (39k-29e-119att) while the Buffs hit .228 (41k-18e-114att).

 

Colorado will enjoy the second of its two Big 12 byes this weekend and will return to action for its final home contest of 2004 on Wednesday, Nov. 24, against Iowa State at 7 p.m. in the Coors Events Conference Center.
