RADFORD QUOTES

December 23, 2004 | Men's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ricardo Patton

GENERAL:  “The game ended up in the right column tonight.  We certainly didn't play our best basketball.  I have to take most of the blame.  In a game like this when Radford suspended two of their better players we had a lot of bad combinations out there and I have to get rid of the soft spot in my heart playing those guys who work hard every day in practice.  We've played better than this; it wasn't a great basketball game.  It'd be easy for me to rip guys tonight, but you're never as good as you think you are after a win and you're never as bad as you think you are when you lose. We looked bad at times tonight, but we had to do some good things tonight too to have a 16-point lead at halftime.”

ON THE INJURY TO JULIUS ASHBY:  “With Julius out, it's back to searching for a rotation.”

ON PLAYING 3 GAMES IN THE PAST 5 DAYS: “They looked tired at times, and I don't know if it's from all the games because guys who haven't been getting a lot of playing time were out there tired, so I don't know what it was.”

ON SCHEDULE: “I think our guys realize we've played a good schedule and that will help us down the road.”

ON MARCU KING-STOCKTON'S FIRST CAREER START: “He did okay.  I wasn't really impressed with any of them tonight.  He has to work hard to get better just like the rest of the team does.”

Colorado Guard Jayson Obazuaye

“I thought we came out and played with more intensity early than we did in our last game (against UMKC). We know we have to go out and play every team like it's Kansas or Oklahoma. We have to play hard regardless of what is says across their chests.”

Utah and Richmond will be a good test for us before we start Big 12 play against Oklahoma. The next three games will help shoe us who we really are.”

Colorado Guard Marcus Hall

“I think I bring more leadership to the team this year. The guys listen to me and I listen to them.”

“I'm not trying to take anything away from (Radford), but we should have won by more than 16 points.”

Colorado Guard Richard Roby

“When the Big 12 schedules comes up we have some guys who need to step up. Coach still gets on me about my (defense) but I just have to play hard every night to prove myself.”

Radford Head Coach Byron Samuels

GENERAL:  “In the first half w did not compete in any facet of the game.  We weren't strong with the basketball and we had 12 turnovers.  I thought they out worked us on the offensive glass, which is something we talked about. We had three keys coming into the game. I was really disappointed in the first half and really pleased in the second half.  One was compete in the glass. I thought we did that in the second half.  Two was to make them defend us, and we just wanted to play harder than they played.

ON CU:  “They made some shots from the perimeter that we can live with.  What I was disappointed in was that they were able to get the ball to the rim against our zones.
