CU NETTERS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY

BOULDER?Opening Big 12 play, the University of Colorado women's tennis team split matches this weekend at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House. Saturday, the Buffs hosted Texas Tech defeating the Red Raiders 5-2, and Sunday they fought a tough battle but fell short to No.13 Texas 4-3.

Colorado, ranked No. 57 in the latest ITA rankings, is now 1-1 in league play and 3-3 overall. Colorado improved their all time series with Texas Tech to 12-6, but the Buffs have yet to beat Texas in school history. This weekend's match was the closest match Colorado has played with Texas in all meetings.

Freshman Lynzee Kever grabbed her fourth win out of five matches at the No. 1 singles position. Kever defeated Texas Tech's Irina Tereshenko, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4, and she topped Longhorn's Petra Dizdar, who is 12-3 on the season, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Colorado dominated the top four singles positions over Texas Tech. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Jessica Vanderdys overtook Red Raider Kendall Brooks 6-2, 6-3. Junior Kendra Strandemo came from behind to defeat Tara Browning 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. Freshman Martina Sedivec took the No. 4 singles point from Alexandra Zotta 6-2, 6-2.

The Buffs took the doubles point in both matches taking two of three points.

CU will continue conference play, hosting Missouri next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. (MST) at the Harvest House. Colorado commands the all-time series of the conference meetings with the Tigers 19-1.
