WOMEN NETTERS STOPPED BY NO. 13 CLEMSON

PROVO, Utah ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team played their highest ranked opponent Monday, losing to No. 13 Clemson, 6-1, in a nonconference match in Provo, Utah. It was the Buffaloes sixth straight match against a ranked Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) opponent and dropped CU to 3-3 in its last six.
Overall, No. 47 CU falls to 6-5, while the Tigers improve to 11-2. This was the first meeting between the Tigers and Buffaloes.
The Tigers swept the doubles matches to capture the first point of the match against the Buffaloes.
Seventh-ranked Julie Coin and Maria Brito defeated Morgan Sall and Jessica Vanderdys by a score of 9-7, and second-seeded Daniela Alvarez and Ioana Paun won their match over Kendra Strandemo and Lynzee Kever by a score of 8-6. At three doubles, Richele LeSaldo and Karen Rombouts combined to take an 8-3 victory over Martina Sedivec and Jenny Hanson.
In singles, CU could only muster one point by senior Morgan Sall, who took an 8-6 winner at No. 5. It was Sall's fourth straight victory this spring.
CU also saw Lynsee Kever enter the ITA rankings at No. 82, despite falling in a tough 6-4, 6-3 match at No. 1 singles. It was only Kever's third loss in 10 matches this spring for the Buffaloes at the top singles spot.
Colorado returns home to play the University of Kansas this Saturday, March 20 at the CU-Boulder South Campus Tennis Courts at 11 a.m.
