BOULDER ? Junior right side hitter Allie Griffin had a match high 21 kills, 10 digs and five blocks to lead the University of Colorado to a 30-15, 28-30, 30-20, 30-21 win over the University of Denver Wednesday night at the Coors Events Conference Center in the season opening match for both teams.

Griffin's hitting numbers were outstanding netting her 21 kills on just 28 attempts with only two errors for a .679 hitting percentage. Right behind her was junior outside hitter Nicole Carr who had 16 kills and hit .625 (16 kills-1 error-24 attempts). Carr also had a match-high 16 digs.

As a team the Buffs hit .402 (71k-18e-132att) while holding Denver to just .136 (49k-30e-140att). Lisa Hunter led the way for the Pioners with 14 kills.

CU setter Ashley Nu'u ran the offense efficiently in her third career start, recording a personal high 43 assists. Junior Maragda Santillana also had double digits in kills with 11.

Colorado will travel to the University of Oregon Classic for three games Sept. 3-4. The Buffs open tournament play with Cal State-Northridge on Friday at 11 a.m. MST.
