Women's Soccer Team Ties Bears 0-0

October 23, 2005 | Soccer

WACO, Texas - In a contest marred by high winds, the University of Colorado women's soccer team battled with Baylor University for 110 minutes, but neither team could net a goal and the Buffs tied the Bears 0-0 here Sunday afternoon.

"The wind out here today was horrible, we were exhausted, both emotionally and physically," said head coach Bill Hempen. "We were drained from our game on Friday, and I think they were as well. It has as much to do with the wind as anything.  Both teams, 36 hours ago going into the wall, then coming out here and having to run against the wind for 45 minutes. Neither team had much activity today."

Senior Kathryn Grandinetti got the first shot on goal for either side, forcing Baylor's Ashley Holder to make the first save of the contest at the 14:17 mark.  CU would get three more shots on goal in the half, with CU freshman keeper Kirstin Radlinski going unchallenged until the 44:23 mark with her only save of regulation.

In the second half, Allison Kidd got an early shot on goal at the 48:48 mark to try and get something going for CU.  Colorado's two leading scorers, Fran Munnelly and Katie Griffin, each  had a shot blocked in the 62nd minute, and the Buffaloes were unable to convert any follow up chances.

Baylor was able to get a bit more going in the overtime periods, with the only shot on goal for either team in the first overtime coming from Tiffany Boshers, forcing another Radlinski save. Both teams had three shots in the second overtime period, but nothing found the back of the net.

Statistically, the game was fairly even.  Colorado outshot the Bears 13-12, with the Buffs getting six of their tries on goal to the Bears four.  This marks the first time in Big 12 play this season that Colorado has been held scoreless.

It marks the first career shutout for frosh keeper Radlinski, who had a solid week in her two first career starts, allowing just two goals on a combined 15 shots on goal.

"We've had our frequent flyer pass punched for Texas again," said Hempen.  "Now it's back to beautiful Colorado for four days, then it's back here next Friday to try and get the win at Texas Tech."

CU will play their final regular season game this Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. MDT when they travel to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Lady Raiders.  The Buffs will then go back to Texas for the fourth time this season for the Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio.
