Cross Country Participates At Tiger Invite

HAYS, Kan. ?The University of Colorado cross country teams participated at the Fort Hays Tiger Invitational on Saturday, October 8. The men's team placed third-overall with 77 points and the women did not compete as a team.

 

Senior Erik Heinonen finished the 8k loop in 25 minutes and 32.75 seconds and placed third overall. Sophomore Greg Castro placed second on the team with a 13th place finish (26:15.46) and senior Will Campbell placed 16th (26:23.25). Rounding of the Colorado team score was junior Daniel Kenney at 26th (26:39.04) and sophomore Rob Thayer at 27th (26:39.59).

 

 On the women's side, senior Jackie Zeigle took fourth overall (18:47.09) in the 5k loop. Sophomore Kelly Shuma came in 12th (19:30.21) and junior Shanna Sparks followed just one position behind (19:35.33). Freshman Alicia Martinez finished at 33rd (20:23.21) for the Buffs.

 

Joseph Maina, of Butler County Community College, took top honors in the men's side (25:07.99). Air Force took first with 49 points and Colorado School of Mines placed second with 59 points.

 

Butler County Community College's Diane Nukuri took first in the women's race (17:31.06). Colorado School of Mines earned top honors with 23 points.

 

The Buffaloes varsity team will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 15, as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-National Invitational.
