BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men's basketball team broke open a five-point half time lead scoring 50 second half points to defeat Regis University, 78-51 Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.

Senior forward Chris Copeland led the Buffs with a team-high 14 points and topped all players under the basket grabbing seven rebounds.  Senior guard Jayson Obazuaye followed with 12 points and six boards.

Although Colorado jumped out to a 9-3 lead quickly in the first half, they ended playing statistically even with the Rangers through the half.  In the second half the Buffaloes improved from 45.8 (11-of-24) to 69 percent (20-of-29) from the field.

The Buffaloes broke open their five-point half-time lead with a 15-3 run (5-of-5 field goals) over the next four minutes for commanding a 43-26 advantage.

Regis was led by Nick Winder with 15 points.  The Rangers shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) including a disappointing 3-of-20 from behind the arc.

"Hopefully these two exhibition games have prepared us for the regular season,” said head coach Ricardo Patton.  “We saw some good things and some things we need to work on.”

The Buffaloes open the regular season against UNC Wilmington next Friday, Nov. 18 (8:30 p.m.) at the Events Center. The Seahawks return three starters from their 19-10 team that won the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title only to fall in the conference semifinals.
