Metivier Big 12 Athlete Of The Week
February 01, 2005 | Track and Field
DALLAS - The Big 12 Conference office has announced that University of Colorado senior harrier Renee Metivier and Kansas State thrower Coby Cost were selected as the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances Jan. 25-30.
In her first race since an NCAA cross country championship national runner-up finish two months ago, University of Colorado senior Renee Metivier won the women's 3,000-m in an NCAA indoor automatic qualifying time of 9 minutes, 14.23 seconds at the University of Washington Invitational Saturday.
Metivier edged Arizona State's Courtney Inman by .36 seconds for the win and bragging rights to the Big 12 Conference's leading time and second in the nation in the event.
Cost set a Kansas State school mark and Northern Iowa Invitational meet record in the weight throw with a winning toss (69-4 1/4). The El Dorado, Kan., native's previous school record was 68-6 1/2 during the KSU Open in 2003. This improves on the junior's NCAA Indoor Championship provisional qualifying distance, which was previously 68-2 1/2 during this year's (Jan. 8) KSU Invitational.
