AUSTIN, Texas ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team won the doubles point then took three of the next five singles slots to upset No. 3 seed and No. 31 ranked Nebraska, 4-2, Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Tournament hosted by the University of Texas.

CU, ranked No. 62 nationally received singles wins from Jessica Vanderdys, Veera Nurmi, and Gleisy Torres Torres along with two of the three doubles points sending the No. 6 seed Buffs with a date with No. 2 seed and No. 10 ranked Texas Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Longhorns defeated No. 10 seed Kansas State, 4-0 on Friday.

It's the second time in the last three years a Nicole Kenneally coached team has reached the semifinals. In 2003, No. 8 seed CU upset top-seeded Baylor to advance to the conference semifinal round.

“We played Nebraska four days ago and had a really long, tough match with them. We knew that it would be another one tonight, but the players were ready to come out and play,” said Kenneally. “We're excited to be playing Texas in the semifinals, but we're not content with just being in the semifinals. We're here to compete and try to win the tournament."

The Buffaloes started the day taking the doubles point led by its No. 57 nationally ranked doubles team of Vanderdys and Kendra Strandemo, 8-4, while Torres Torres and Jenny Hanson teamed up for an 8-3 winner at No. 3.

It was Strandmeo/Vanderdys' 15th win of the year, while Hanson/Torres Torres recorded their third win in six outings.

With a 1-0 lead heading into singles play, Torres Torres put CU up 2-0 with her 18th win of the year taking an easy 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 6. Torres Torres also reached the winners' circle for the fourth straight time and six of her last seven.

The Cornhuskers (18-3) winners of its last eight in a row and a 4-3 winner last week at Colorado, stormed back to even the score at 2-2 taking the next pair of singles slots at No. 1 and No. 5.

CU (12-11) closed the door on the ?Huskers in the next two singles behind Vanderdys at No. 3 (6-4, 6-1) and Nurmi, also taking a straight set winner at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2). Vanderdys won her 17th of the year, while Nurmi recorded her 20th triumph and fifth win in her last six matches.
