Colorado Women's Golf Finishes 13th at Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate

October 18, 2006 | Women's Golf

LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? The University of Colorado women's golf team shot the same team score in the final round as they did on Tuesday and as a result they dropped into 13th place at the New Mexico State University Price's Give ?Em Five Intercollegiate.

Colorado shot 309 in the final round but it was not enough to move them up the leaderboard, as they finished with a three day total of 931.  The hosts from New Mexico State took home the team championship with an 890.   Lehua Wise of New Mexico State also took home medalist honors with a two-under 214.

“As a team, we really need to work on finishing our rounds,” said CU head coach Anne Kelly.  “It's something we did very well at the CSU tournament and the start of the Oregon tournament and we have not done a good job of that since.  It will be a focal point of our practices going forward.”

Today the Buffs were led by senior Hannah Hoch and junior Lindsay Senger, both of whom checked in at three-over par 75.  It was the best round of the tournament for both.  Senger finished with a score of 235 and in 52nd place, while Hoch was one behind her with a 236 and a tie for 57th place.

“I'm proud of Hannah and Senger today,” said Kelly.  “They stepped up and played better than they have all weekend and we needed it today.”

“I guess a kind of stuck to my game plan a little more today,” said Senger.  “I was putting much better even though I missed a few. I had trouble with my longer irons today so I made a few too many bogeys. I had four birdies, and with that I should have been able to shoot a lot lower.”

Freshman Dominique Pytlewski was the top overall finisher for Colorado for the first time in her young career, shooting 78 today for a three round total of 231, good for 31st place.  She was the lone Buff golfer to stay under 80 in all three rounds for the tournament.

"I'm not happy because I went four over on the last three holes,” said Pytlewski.  “I was two over with three to play and there was scoring potential there.  I need to work on my swing and my short game so that's what I'll be doing for the next two weeks.  But staying under 80 shouldn't be a goal or a positive ever.  Not ever.”

Freshman Christine Kim and senior Lindsay Koth rounded out the team scoring, both shooting 81 in the final round.  Kim finished up with a 236 total to tie with Hoch for 57th place, while Koth posted a 239 for 64th.

The Buffaloes will wrap up their fall tournament schedule starting on Monday, Oct. 30 at the Kiawah Island Resort at the College of Charleston meet.  That will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 31 before CU breaks for the semester.
