Women's Golf in 12th at Hawaii Invitational

Honolulu, Hawaii ? The University of Colorado women's golf team got off to a rocky start here in the Kent Youel Invitational and are currently tied for 12th place after shooting 314-314 ? 627 in the opening rounds.

Sophomore Dominique Pytlewski led the way for the Buffaloes in the first round with an even-par 72. Pytlewski dropped to eighth after the second round as she shot a four-over 76 and is just six strokes back from the leader, UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe. Both of Pytlewski's scores were team lows as she finished the day with a total score of 148.

“The weather conditions are very windy and we haven't handled it very well, except for Domi,” said head coach Anne Kelly. “She played very well today and is still recovering from being sick on Sunday. Domi is one tough player and a great example for the rest of the team.”

Pytlewski was followed by senior Lindsay Senger who shot an 81 in the first round, but was able to bounce back in round two, improving by four strokes and carding a 77 to put her in a tie for 48th overall.

Freshman Stephanie Simich also recorded a four stroke improvement as she carded an 82 and 78 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Simich is currently tied for 62nd in the individual standings, and is followed closely by sophomore Julie Kim. Kim opened the tournament with a 79 in the first round, but fell to an 82 in the second round, good for a two-round total of 161. Junior Cierra Ko finished out the scoring for the Buffaloes, shooting 91-86 ? 177.

After 36 holes, UCLA has a strong hold on the No. 1 spot with a two-round total of 584. USC (595), California (600), San Jose State (613) and Oregon State (615) round out the top five in the team standings.

The third and final round of the Kent Youel Invitational will tee off Tuesday morning as the Buffs play their final 18 holes of the fall season.

“We need to reduce silly mistakes and make smarter decisions about how we deal with the wind,” said Kelly.
