March 22, 2007 | Tennis

COLLEGE STATION, Texas ? The University of Colorado tennis team fresh off their first top-20 national ranking in 26 years did not live up to expectations of that ranking falling to No. 26 Texas A&M, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

It's the first Big 12 Conference loss for the Buffaloes (5-1), while the Aggies remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. CU also sees their four-match winning streak come to an end dropping to 10-4 on the season.

Even though CU failed to earn a point on the scoreboard, they did see their No. 55 doubles team reach the winners' circle for the seventh straight time this dual season.

Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec defeated Anna Blagodarova/Michelle Sammons, 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. Esposito/Sedivec are both ranked for the first time in their careers, also remained unbeaten against Big 12 foes with a 4-0 mark.

Two-time conference player of the week award winner and No. 35 ranked Monica Milewski saw her eight-match winning streak come to an end, falling to No. 24 Anna Lubinsky 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5); while Franziska Jendrian lost a tough three-set match to Anna Blagodarova, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) at No. 3 singles.

CU's other four singles players lost in straight sets, three of them (Jendrian, Gleisy Torres Torres, Melisa Esposito) played a position higher for the first time this season.

The No. 20 national ranking in latest Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced earlier this week was CU's first top-20 ranking since January of 1981.

Texas A&M continues (13-3) continues their dominance over the Buffs winning their ninth straight dating back to the 1999 season.

The Buffaloes will look to rebound on Saturday against the No. 40 Texas Longhorns (6-6, 3-0) at 12:30 p.m. in Austin. CU will be attempting their first win in school history against the ?Horns (0-15).
