Vaughn and Barringer Lead Buffs at Cardinal Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Brent Vaughn and Jenny Barringer led the University of Colorado track team on Sunday, as the Buffaloes traveled to Stanford University to compete in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, where five CU runners broke regional qualifying times.

Vaughn turned in the best result for the Buffs on the day, taking second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 13:30.12, finishing less than 3 seconds off the winning mark. Stephen Pifer followed close behind at 15th place, finishing in 13:43.04, to beat out the regional qualifying mark of 14:12.00.

In the men's 1,500, Anthony Chiulli surpassed the regional qualifying mark, claiming 8th place in the event, with a time of 3:44.75. Kenyon Newman followed at 3:49.70 for 13th place, just outside the regional qualifying time, while Billy Nelson and Dan Kenney turned in time of 3:52.93 and 3:53.70, respectfully.

Jenny Barringer led the CU women, as she finished 4th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:48.24, shattering the regional qualifying time for the event by over a minute. Sara Ensrud also broke a regional qualifying mark, finishing 12th overall in the 1,500 at 4:19.70.

The Buffaloes return to action on May 4, for their final meet before the Big 12 Championships, as they travel to the Air Force Academy for the Air Force Twilight.
