ATHENS, Ga. ? University of Colorado junior-to-be Monica Milewski fell in her first round NCAA Singles Championship match to Martina Banikova of Mississippi State, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, Wednesday morning at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Milewski, ranked No. 38 nationally, won the first set, 6-3, however, Banikova, ranked No. 46th, rallied to win the next to two sets, 6-1 and 7-5 to defeat Milewski for the second time this season. In the decisive third set, Milewski quickly jumped ahead 4-1 and a two-break advantage. With Milewski holding a 5-2 lead, Banikova rallied, reeling off five consecutive games to earn the win.

Milewski ends the 2006-07 season 16-9 in spring play and 25-12 overall.

The Park Ridge, Ill. native is the first CU woman in 22 years to compete at the national singles tournament and only the fourth women in school history.
