November 04, 2008 | Cross Country, Football, General, Men's Golf, Volleyball
Boulder-- Golfer Patrick Grady (senior) and volleyball defensive specialist Callie Webster (senior), were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of October 27 to November 2. This is the first honor of the year for both athletes, and the first of Webster's career while Grady now has three career honors.
Grady, a Broomfield, Colo. (Broomfield) native, finished his fall season by tying for runner-up honors in New Mexico State's Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate with at 69-69-71:209 scorecard (four-under par), one stroke behind medalist Travis Reid of the host New Mexico State. Grady was tied for the lead after the first two rounds, and then shot an even par 71 for the third round, on the 7,074-yard New Mexico State Golf Course. Grady was trying to win his second tournament of the fall to go along with his medalist finish in last months Ron Moore Invitational, which was his first collegiate victory. Colorado finished ninth out of 18 teams in the meet, which wrapped up the fall schedule.
Webster, a Mercer Island, Wash. (Mercer Island/New Hampshire) native, recorded 16 digs in the 3-1 upset victory over No. 2 and previously undefeated Nebraska a the Coors Event and Conference Center in Boulder. She was tied along with teammate Alex Buth, who also recorded 16 digs. Webster also served up a pair of aces. She averaged 4.00 dps. The Buffs win over the Huskers was just their seventh win in the all-time series (NU has won 45 times). CU is just one of two programs to beat Nebraska in the last eight years, Texas being the other. Webster had 11 digs in the win two years ago, which went five sets.
Others nominated for this week's award were George Hypolite (football), Jordan Kyle (men's cross country) and Emily Hanenburg (women's cross country).
Football: George Hypolite, Senior, Los Angeles, Calif.
Hypolite had a season high eight tackles (five solo), including four for losses (two quarterback sacks) and a fifth for zero. He also had two hurries and a third down stop. Hypolite is the first Buff to have four tackles for a loss in a game since Abraham Wright had four against Colorado State in the second game of the 2006 season.
Men's Cross Country: Jordan Kyle, Junior, Fishers, Ind.
Kyle led the Buffs at the 2008 Big 12 Cross Country Championship with and eighth-place finish. Kyle finished the 8k race in 24:28.2 to earn his first All-Big 12 honor. His best position was at the 5k mark when he was third. Kyle helped the Buffs to a second-place team finish with 66 points, just one point ahead of the host Iowa State.
