Women's Golf Drops to 13th at Florida Invitational
February 23, 2008 | Women's Golf
“We're a good team, but this course requires great short game and we just haven't had the ability to practice that during the off-season,” said head coach Anne Kelly. “This course requires a lot of touch and skill and it requires a golfer to really think and unfortunately we just can't simulate that with what we have been working with. With that said, we are getting some good experience and playing on of the best courses that I've seen in college golf. It is definitely the most challenging and we're getting a great experience.”
Freshman Stephanie Simich still leads the Buffs in the individual standings after shooting a 78 today. She opened with a 38 on the front, solidified by a birdie on No. 9, but had some troubles late on the back nine, finishing eight-over par on the day. She is in a tie for 31st place after two rounds with a two day total of 151.
Senior Lindsay Senger had CU's low round of the day and had the best first-to-second round improvement with a five-over par 75 and moved from a tie for 48th place to a tie for 39th place with her score of 154.
“Senger has a lot of heart,' said Kelly. “She really worked hard after the round yesterday and she's working on a lot of things in her game. The kid has such a good heart and she will find any way to shoot the best round possible and she did that today.”
Sophomore Julie Kim improved two strokes from yesterday's first round to shoot a 77 today. She recorded a team-high three birdies, two of which coming on the back nine, but an unfortunate double-bogey on the front and a triple on the back enabled her from making as strong of a mark. She finished seven-over on the day and sits in a tie for 50th place in the individual standings.
Sophomore Christine Kim shot a 79 and has CU's fourth-best total with a 160 after two rounds, and is currently tied for 67th place. Fellow sophomore Dominique Pytlewski shot an 82 and has a two day total of 163, landing her in a tie for 73rd place.
The final round of the Lady Gator Invitational will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
“We're getting better,” Kelly said. “You can tell with any
