Women's Golf Seventh at San Jose

March 04, 2008 | Women's Golf

SAN JOSE ? The University of Colorado women's golf team improved its team score by four strokes in the third round, but it wasn't enough to move them up the leaderboard as the Buffaloes stayed in seventh place at the San Jose State Spartan Invitational here Tuesday afternoon.

The Buffs improved each round by four strokes, shooting 311-307-303-921 for the tournament.   All five CU golfers shot in the 70s for the first time in the tournament as the Buffaloes inched closer to the results head coach Anne Kelly has been looking for.

“We improved again today so I am happy about that even though we didn't move up the leaderboard,” said Kelly.  “We need to work on finishing better down the last holes of the day, and I think we've really identified what we need to work on in the golf game before our next tournament.  So we're looking forward to two weeks off to work on those things.”

Freshman Stephanie Simich was CU's highest finisher of the tournament, taking 19th with a 76-77-76-229 for the tournament.  It is her best college score and her first top 20 finish for Colorado.  She was followed by sophomore Dominique Pytlewski in 22nd, shooting 75-79-76-230.

Julie Kim was the third-best finisher for the Buffs in the tournament with her 83-73-76-232, good for 29th.  Fellow sophomore Christine Kim carded her best round of the tournament and the best of the day for CU with a 75, giving her an 80-80-75-235 and 37th place.  Rounding out the squad was senior Lindsay Senger with an 80-78-79-237, good for 42nd.

Colorado will now be off until March 24 when they travel to Eugene, Ore., for the Oregon Invitational before traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for their own Mountainview Collegiate at Saddlebrook.
