Sawyer Collects Regional Mark

Sawyer won her section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10 minutes and 45.80 seconds. The time was also a personal best and she claimed her third first-place finish in as many races during the outdoor season. Sawyer finished over four seconds ahead of Nicole Mericle (Rice) who finished in 10:49.98.
Sawyer has improved by at least 25 seconds in each race this season. She started the year with a time of 11:43.03 on March 22 and improved to 11:11.03 just last Saturday at the CU Invite.
The women's 1,500-meter run kicked off the distance carnival portion of the Mt. Sac Relays. Allison Eckert took second in the first section. She ran to a personal best of 4:35.81 and finished just over one second behind
On the men's side, Christian Thompson just missed a regional mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He recorded a time of 9:08.54, which was just 1.54 seconds short of the regional time (9:07.00).
Matt Herzl placed 12th in the first section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He crossed the finish in a personal best of 9:42.05, surpassing his previous best of 10:14.32 by more than half a minute.
Nick Miller and Greg Castro raced in the 5,000-meter run for Buffs. Miller ran a time of 15:14.70 in his 5k debut and took 25th overall. Castro finished in 15:43.41 and placed 26th.
The Buffs will be back in action on Friday at the Mt. Sac Relays.
