Thompson Races To A Regional Mark At Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. ? University of Colorado sophomore Christian Thompson earned a regional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night at the Stanford Invitational.
Thompson placed third overall in the second section of the steeplechase with a personal record of 9 minutes, 0.57 seconds. He finished just five seconds after Oklahoma State's David Chirchir (8:55.13). Jonathan Cherono of Arkansas was the only other racer to beat Thompson and just nipped him at the finish in 9:00.42.
Freshman Emma Coburn just missed recording her second regional mark in as many weeks as she finished the 1,500-meter run in 4:30.77 and placed sixth in the section. She was just three seconds off the regional mark 4:27.80. Coburn already qualified for regionals in the steeplechase last Saturday at the Potts Invite.
Sophomores Laura Thweatt and Emily Hanenburg raced in the third section of the 5,000-meter run. Thweatt placed 10th overall, finishing in 17:01.68, while Hanenburg took 22nd overall with a time of 17:27.19.
Senior Jordan Kyle placed 27th in the 10,000-meter run. Kyle finished in 29:53.49.
