Kansas State-Colorado Notes
March 07, 2009 | Women's Basketball
With the loss today, Colorado will be the 12th seed at the 2009 Big 12 Championship, March 12-15, in Oklahoma City. The Buffaloes will have a rematch with Kansas State in a first round game on Thursday, March 12.
Kansas State sweeps the regular season series, but Colorado continues to hold the overall series lead at 32-31. The Colorado-Kansas State season series has ended in a sweep in six of the past seven years. Last season (2007-08) was the lone exception.
Colorado's 37 first half points were its most during Big 12 play this season and most against a Big 12 opponent since scoring 40 against Kansas State in last season's meeting in Boulder.
Colorado's opponents are shooting 46 percent over the last seven contests (178-of 385). The Buffaloes are just 1-6 during that span.
Brittany Spears scored 18 points, becoming the seventh different Colorado player to reach 500 points in one season. It's the 11th time overall a Buff has scored 500 in one season and she now ranks 11th on CU's single season scoring list with 507.
Spears needs just 21 points to become the 22nd player in history to reach 1,000. She is already 22nd on CU's all-time scoring list, sitting at 979 after today's game.
Bianca Smith had eight rebounds, her most in the Big 12 this season and most since logging eight against Saint Louis on Dec. 22.
Kara Richards scored 19 points and is averaging a team best 19.8 points over the last five games.
