
Netters Dominate Iowa State, 6-1

BOULDER ? Senior Franziska Jendrian clinched her first match of the year and four other University Colorado singles players won in straight sets lifting the Buffaloes tennis team to a 6-1 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones, Friday afternoon at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House bubble.
The win improves the No. 53 nationally ranked Buffaloes to 11-7 overall and to 7-2 mark in the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones lost for the eight straight time in conference play, falling to 10-11 overall and 1-9 in the conference.
CU continued its dominance over ISU winning for the 28th time in 30 meetings, improved to 13-1 in Big 12 play and remained unbeaten in Boulder at 7-0.
“Iowa State is a much improved team and I knew it was going to be a fight,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “We just held our own and stayed with them when we needed to, but it was a good college match.”
The Buffs improved to 9-1 on the season when winning the doubles point taking two of three from the Cyclones for a 1-0 lead. Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito defeated Erin Karonis and Kara Hickey, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles for their sixth Big 12 triumph. It was also the sixth win in seven matches for Belassi/Esposito.
CU clinched the point when Michala Hedelund Jensen and Abbie Probert defeated Liza Wicher and Tessa Lang, 8-2 at No. 3. Hedelund Jensen/Probert recorded their 10th win of the year and fifth in conference play.
In singles, CU stormed out to a 3-1 advantage with straight set tallies from Belassi and Probert. Belassi and Probert each improved their impressive Big 12 record to 7-2. Belassi won for the seventh time in her last eight singles matches defeating Lang, 6-0, 6-1; while Probert defeated Maria Macedo, 6-3, 6-4.
In her last six matches, Probert has won five of them.
With ISU holding steady despite a 3-1 deficit, the home team rounded out the scoring with Jendrian's clinching match in three sets, followed by a pair of freshman straight sets wins from Hedelund Jensen and Ania Anuszkiewicz.
Jendrian tallied her 84th career singles win rallying to defeat Marie Chartier at the No. 4 slot, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0. It was Jendrian's 22nd career victory in three set matches and 13th career match win after losing the first set.
CU added a pair of team points with Hedelund Jensen defeating Reka Kelemen, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6, and at No. 5, Anuszkiewicz outlasted Liza Wischer, 6-1, 6-4. Hedelund Jensen won her 14th of the year, while Anuszkiewicz tallied her fourth.
