
Tennis Seeded No. 5 at Big 12s

NORMAN, Okla. ? In a match postponed due to wintery conditions in Boulder on March 28, the Baylor University women's tennis team defeated the University of Colorado, 4-0, Wednesday morning at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Buffaloes will be the No. 5 seed at this week's Big 12 Tennis Championships in Norman and will play No. 12 seed Kansas State, Thursday, April 23 at 9 a.m. (MDT).
CU (11-9 overall) finished conference play with a 7-4 record.
The Buffaloes will play the Wildcats for the first time in Big 12 Conference post-season play.
K-State is 4-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference, will be the No. 12 for the first time. In its conference history, the Buffaloes are 2-2 at the No. 5 seed.
The winner of the CU/K-State match will take on No. 4 seed Nebraska, Friday, April 24 at 11 a.m. (MDT).
Playing a tournament-style format on Wednesday, the No. 5 nationally ranked Bears (21-4, 11-0) took the doubles point claiming the top two positions with their nationally ranked tandem. In singles, Baylor secured the top three positions with their trio of nationally ranked players all in straights sets.
The Bears won their fifth straight regular season conference title.
“Baylor is the best team we have played all year,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “We definitely learned from this match and now we'll focus our attention on the conference championships starting tomorrow.”
CU won at least seven conference matches for the third straight spring totaling 24 victories in that span. That's the most Big 12 match wins for a CU team over any three-year span.
The Big 12 Tennis Championships is scheduled for April 23-26 at Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. Baylor is the defending champion and No. 1 seed. The Bears have claimed five consecutive league titles and have won 55 of their last 56 regular-season conference matches (lone loss at Colorado, 5-2 March 4, 2007).
The OU campus is hosting the tennis championships for the second time in conference history. All-session passes are available at $15 for adults and $10 for youth, students and seniors, while single-session tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for youth, students and seniors.
