Barringer Sets CU School Record

April 24, 2009 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore. ? University of Colorado senior Jenny Barringer set a CU record in the 1,500-meter run at the Oregon Relays on Friday night at the historic Hayward Field in the 1,500-meter run.

The Oviedo, Fla. native clocked a time of 4 minutes, 8.38 seconds in her outdoor season debut, which is the fastest time recorded during the 2009 outdoor season. She surpassed the previous CU record in the 1500 of 4:10.81 which was set by Shayne Wille at the NCAA Championships in 1997. The NCAA record in the event is 4:06.19.

Barringer was not the only Buff to compete in the top section of the 1500. Emma Coburn finished fifth overall in the section and was fifth overall. Coburn finished in 4:27.69, just under the regional qualifying time of 4:27.80. Katie Cumming was 10th overall with a time of 4:33:58.

Brianne Beemer took third overall in the 800. She finished with a PR of 2:14.96 and even led after the first 600. Beemer finished less than a second behind the first-place finisher, Janelle Everetts, who recorded a time of 2:14.13. According to head coach Mark Wetmore, Beemer ran a very good and tactical race.

On the men's side; Steve Kasica was third overall in the 800. He also finished with a PR at 1:52.21, improving from a mark of 1:53.05 which he set one week ago at the Mt. SAC Relays. In the 1500, Andy Wacker was second, finishing in 3:52.21. Matt Tebo was ninth in 3:56.36.

Barringer will compete on Saturday in the 800-meter run while part of the team will compete at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
