Track Announces Additions to Roster

BOULDER-Â The 2010 University of Colorado track and field season starts Friday at the Air Force All-Comers Meet at and assistant coaches Casey and Lindsey Malone, along with Drew Morano have announced the addition of 21 athletes to their respective areas from the 2009 roster.

               Casey Malone, the 2009 U.S. Champion in the discus throw and fifth-place finisher at the 2009 IAAF World Championships, adds five to his throwing roster. Malone has a talented upper class in both genders, and with the addition of these newcomers, he should have some talent that can add points at the indoor and outdoor conference championships.

"This is my largest recruiting class in recent years and I am genuinely excited to be coaching this very talented group of throwers," Malone said. "They are gifted athletes and students who I believe will make significant contributions to the University of Colorado. Their dedication and commitment to achieving excellence has made our team stronger."

HIGH SCHOOL: Bank is the MHS shot put record holder (35-02.5) and has held the record for the last three years. She placed 10th overall at the state championship and lists her biggest moment as moving up from 16th to ninth to qualify for finals at state. Bank was also an all-conference selection (Front Range League) and was third in the Boulder County Championships on the track. Bank was also a member of the swimming and tennis teams for the Coyotes. She earned four letters on the swim team and one in tennis.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Bank intends to major in integrative physiology at Colorado. She would like to become a physical therapist upon graduation.
PERSONAL: Kajsa Johanna Bank was born on June 25, 1991 in Boulder, Colo. She is the daughter of Holden Bank and Annette (T?nnander) Bank. Her mother was a two-time Olympian in the high jump and heptathlon and competed at CU as a member of the track and field team. Bank's aunt Kristine T?nnander was also an Olympian (heptathlon) and her grandfather, Kjell T?nnander also competed at the Olympics in the decathlon. All three were members of the Swedish national team. Her father was a swimmer at Duke. She has one brother, Tobias, and one sister, Karolina. Bank lists her hobbies as swimming, photography, sports, snowboarding and hanging out with friends. She is fluent in Swedish and goes to Sweden every summer to visit family that still lives there.

HIGH SCHOOL: Chobanian was a four-year letterwinner at Scripps Ranch High School. He was a three-time CIF competitor and ranked in the top-10 in 2008. Chobanian is the SRHS record holder in the discus (177-1) and ranks second all-time in the shot put (57-03).
IN THE CLASSROOM: Chobanian intends to major in environmental science and is also interested in architecture.
PERSONAL: Dane Thomas Chobanian was born on October 26, 1989, in Pasadena, Calif. He is the son of John Goldenring and Barbara Whitesides of San Diego and has one brother, Blake. His uncle, Jim Whitesides, played basketball for the U.S. Naval Academy. Chobanian lists his hobbies as Tae Kwan Do, astronomy and physics and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

HIGH SCHOOL: Hunsucker owns PHS records in the shot put and the discus throws. She launched a mark of 135-10 in the discus and had a throw of 42-08 in the shot put. Hunsucker placed first in the state as a senior in the shot put and was ninth as a junior. In the discus, she recorded a third-place finish as a senior and was fifth as a junior. Hunsucker was all-conference her sophomore through senior years. As a senior, she was named the most outstanding athlete of the year and was the PHS track and field MVP. Hunsucker was named the outstanding freshman athlete of the year and also played volleyball for the Panthers.Â
IN THE CLASSROOM: Hunsucker intends to major in business management. She was named the Outstanding U.S. History Student as a sophomore and her junior year she was named the Outstanding AP World History Student.
PERSONAL: Emily Jean Husucker was born on April 20, 1991 in Blackhawk, Colo. She is the daughter of Todd and Christine Hunsucker of Loveland, Colo. and has one brother, Hayden, who is a member of the CSU-Pueblo football team.  Â

HIGH SCHOOL: Potter is the NHS shot put record holder (39-05), which she set on April 6, 2009 at the Mt. Range Meet in North Stadium, Colo. Her personal record in the discus of 113-00 was set at regionals on May 15, 2008. As a senior, Potter was the Front Range League shot put champion. She was named the Navy Athlete of the Year. Potter was named the female track MVP her junior and senior years and was the throws MVP her sophomore through senior years.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Potter intends to major in mathematics and education and is also interested in photography.
PERSONAL: Molly Kay Potter was born on December 26, 1990, in Denver, Colorado. She is the daughter of Rhonda Potter of Thornton, Colo. Her grandfather, Rocky Selanders, played football at Western State and for the San Diego Chargers and her uncle, Ramsey Selanders, also played football at WSC. Potter's hobbies include photography, reading and anything crafty.

Lindsey Malone has the largest group of athletes in this class with the addition of 11 athletes as she continues to grow CU's combined events and jumps program.

While at RVHS, he earned eight letters and was named the track MVP as a senior. DeWitt was also recruited by Colorado State.

PERSONAL: Jason Kelly DeWitt was born on June 25, 1991 in Wheatridge, Colo. He is the son of Kelly and Debbee DeWitt of Arvada, Colo. and has two sisters. DeWitt enjoys playing the guitar and has volunteered as a freshman mentor and as an outdoor lab instructor.

2009 (at Oregon): Echer competed in three meets during the outdoor season for the Ducks. She ran the 200-meter dash once at Oregon Relays with a mark of 26.93 seconds. Echer also ran the 100-meter hurdles twice. She ran a mark of 15.61 at the Oregon Preview (3/21).
HIGH SCHOOL: Echer was a state qualifier in the triple jump and the 300-meter hurdles for Mullen High School. She finished third in the 300 hurdles as a sophomore in 2006 (45.64). The Mustangs were the Colorado State 4A Track & Field State and Centennial League Champions in 2005 and ?06.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Echer intends to major in integrated physiology and is also interested in international affairs. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and was honored with the Torch Award her freshman through senior years.
PERSONAL: Stephanie Jean Echer was born on December 31, 1989 in Littleton, Colo. Her parents are Dennis, who competed in football and track and field at Colorado School of Mines, and Lauri Echer. She has three siblings, Cassie, Ryan and Troy. Echer lists her hobbies as reading and collecting postcards.

Emory was also recruited by CSU for track and Western State to play football.

PERSONAL: Brock Belve Emory was born on September 4, 1990 in Wadesboro, N.C. He is the son of Lyn and Lorraine Emory of Colorado Springs, Colo. Emory is the oldest of four (siblings are Luke, Alexandria and Samantha). The Eagle Scout lists his hobbies as fishing, working out, hiking and spending time with family. His father played football for Catawba and his grandfather, Melvin, played football at Clemson. Emory's great grandfather, Gene Belve, played baseball at Duke and for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

HIGH SCHOOL: Grandi is a member of two school record owning relay teams, the 3,200 (9:39) and 1,600-meter (4:04). She was all-conference, county and area her sophomore through senior years and was all-conference and county as a freshman. Grandi qualified for state all four years on the track team. She was a member of the BHS basketball team, earning all-conference, county and area honors her final three seasons at BHS. Grandi was also recruited by Washington and Colorado College.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Grandi intends to major in Spanish and psychology but is also interested in business and pre-medicine. She won the Science Departmental Award in 2009 and was the valedictorian of her class.
PERSONAL: Catherine Marion Grandi was born on April 24, 1991 in Burlington, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Grandi. She has three siblings, Melissa, Ellie and Sophie. Her uncle, Joe Curran, played football at Michigan State. Grandi lists waterskiing, boating, reading and sports as her hobbies. She has been a volunteer youth coach for basketball and track and has spent time volunteering at a homeless shelter while in high school. Grandi was a gymnast for 10 years before focusing on track and field.

HIGH SCHOOL: Odneal earned four letters in track & field at PHS. She was a two-time regional champion in the high jump and won the region championship in the 100-meter hurdles one time. Odneal owns the PHS records in both events. She recorded a jump of 5-4 in the high jump and a time of 15.2 in the 100-meter hurdles. Odneal was an all-conference selection all four years and was all-state as a sophomore. She competed at a meet in Brisbane, Australia and took first in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-04.50. Odneal was also a four-year letterwinner for the basketball team and was all-conference her senior year. She was also recruited by Adams State, Emporia State, Nevada?Reno and Johnson & Wales.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Odneal intends to major in business management and is also interested in real estate. She earned first team academic honors as a junior and senior in high school.
PERSONAL: Holly Rae Odneal was born on December 22, 1990 in Palisade, Calif., and is the daughter of Wes and Linda Odneal. Linda played basketball at Otero Junior College; Wes was on the rodeo team at Sterling Junior College and then rode bare-back broncos professionally. She has one sister, Hannah, and one brother, Joey. Odneal lists her hobbies as snowboarding, shopping and playing solitaire. She volunteered at the YMCA for a service learning class through AmeriCorps in 2008.

HIGH SCHOOL: Overcash is a two-time state champion in the high jump; winning in 2007 and ?08. She was the runner up in 2009 and took 17th in the shot put that year. Overcash also owns school records in both of those events. She recorded her mark of 5-06 in 2008 at the state championship in the high jump. Overcash's mark of 31-0 in the shot put came at regionals where she placed eighth. In 2006, she was a member of a pair of regional championships on the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relay teams. Overcash was named the team MVP as a senior and was the Oldham Country All-Around Female Athlete of the Year her junior season. As a sophomore, she was named to the KHSAA Super Sophomore Team as well as the OCAAFAOY. Overcash also earned four letters on the basketball team. She was recruited by the U.S. Naval Academy, Guilford and Centre College.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Overcash intends to major in aerospace engineering and is also interested in literature and Navy ROTC. She was an academic all-state selection and an AP Scholar in high school.
PERSONAL: Erin Roxie Overcash was born on November 29, 1990 in Louisville, Ky. She is the daughter of Wendell and Joanne Overcash of Goshen, Ky. and has one sister, Holly, who was a four-year letterwinner on the Centre College cross country team. She lists reading, skeet shooting, biking and kayaking as her hobbies. Overcash also volunteered during high school with Habitat for Humanity, and trail restoration of the Louisville Zoo.Â

HIGH SCHOOL: Thompson is a three-time Colorado State 3A Champion. He won back-to-back titles in the long jump in 2008 and ?09 and the 2009 triple jump title. As a senior, Thompson set RFHS records in both events. On May 8, 2009, he recorded a long jump mark of 22-04 and on May 15, 2009, Thompson had a triple jump of 46-09. In 2009 Thompson participated at the State Games of America in the 17-18 age group in Colorado Springs. He was first in both the long and triple jumps and also took fifth in the 100-meter dash. Thompson was recruited by the Air Force Academy and Colorado School of Mines.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Thompson is an open major at Colorado but is interested in engineering.Â
PERSONAL: Tyler Thompson was born on December 20, 1990 in Carbondale, Colo. He is the son of Bradley and Karen Thompson and has one brother, Justin. His father played basketball at CU-Denver while his grandfather, Lew Ron Thompson, played basketball at Colorado and was coached by Sox Walseth.

HIGH SCHOOL: White earned four letters in track and field while attending three high schools between ninth and 12th grade. She was the Colorado 5A triple jump champion in 2009 and was the runner-up in 2008. White recorded a personal record in the triple jump of 39-4 when she won her state championship.
IN THE CLASSROOM: White intends to major in dance but is also interested in communications.
PERSONAL: Alexandria Nicole White was born on April 3, 1991 in Denver, Colo. She is the daughter of Ron White and Julie Hague. She has two brother, Jordan White and Ryan Hogue, and one sister, Chloe White, as well as three step-sisters and one step-brother. White's grandfather coached CU assistant coach Lindsey Malone in middle and high school and was a coach at the Air Force Academy. She lists her hobbies as dancing and enjoys listening to music all of the time. Â

IN THE CLASSROOM: Wilson intends to major in human geography and history and is also interested in urban planning and law. As a high school senior, she was named an AP Scholar with Distinction.Â
PERSONAL: Kaile Leigh Wilson was born on July 11, 1988 in Phoenix, Ariz. She is the daughter of Roger and Cheryl Wilson and has one brother, Quinn. Her uncle Darwin McCutcheon played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL. Wilson lists skiing and ice hockey as her hobbies.

Morano, who took over the reins of the sprints and hurdles program in September after serving last season as a volunteer, adds six to his talented roster. He is very confident that these additions will help keep building the program in the right direction.

"I was very fortunate to come into this program with so much talent on both sides, and the athletes have made the transition from the two coaching styles quite easily," Morano said. "The addition of these sprinters will make out team stronger and will help built upon the recent success of this program. They all had great fall training and now I'm looking forward for them to see the result of their hard work."

HIGH SCHOOL: Aguilar-Wynn won the 2008 Colorado 5A State Championship in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.25 seconds. In 2009, he placed fifth overall in the event. Aguilar-Wynn was a member of the RJHS 4x800-meter relay team that set the school record of 7:59.44. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Raiders. The RJHS team won the 2007 Continental League Championship. Aguilar-Wynn was also earned two letters as a member of the football team. He was also recruited by Oklahoma, CSU, Colorado School of Mines and UCCS.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Aguilar-Wynn intends to major in engineering and was an academic all-state honorable mention selection. He was the Co-President of the Diversity Action Group and Multicultural Alliance in high school.
PERSONAL: Jordan Alexander Aguilar-Wynn was born on January 6, 1991 in Denver, Colo. He is the son of Charlene Aguilar and is the oldest of four boys, Jarett, Joshua and Jayce. His cousin Devin Aguilar is a member of the football team at Washington. Aguilar-Wynn lists his hobbies as sports, cooking and playing video games. He has also volunteered coaching little league football and basketball.

HIGH SCHOOL: Davis earned three letters as a member of the Skyline High School track team. She was a part of the Texas 5A State Champion 4x400-meter relay team in 2008 and the 4x200 relay team in 2009. Davis was also recruited by TCU, North Texas and Sam Houston State.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Davis intends to major in sports medicine and would like to pursue a career as a trainer or a physical therapist. She graduated from high school with honors.Â
PERSONAL: Sydney Lynn Davis was born in Dallas, Texas. She is the daughter of Carver, who played football at Northeastern State, and Andrea Davis. She has one brother, Carter, and one sister, Lauren. Davis enjoys horseback riding and hanging out with her friends. One summer she volunteered with a summer church camp called Project Turnaround. Davis also helped out at a horse therapy camp for mentally challenged people.

PERSONAL: Precious Desta Lyons was born on May 28, 1991, in Denver, Colo. She is the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Lyons. Lyons has two sisters, Passion and Devonna, and one brother, Frederick. Her uncle is Brian Kelly played in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions. She lists her hobbies as reading, shopping and dancing.  Â

IN THE CLASSROOM: MacIntosh intends to major in business and is also interested in pre-health chiropractor. He was a member of the all-state academic team.Â

200-Meters: 21.31 (2009)

2009 (at Tennessee): Morris had a successful season for the Tennessee Volunteers and ranks 10th in school history in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.71 seconds, which he ran during the prelims of the SEC Indoor Championship. Morris just missed scoring for UT at the meet by taking ninth in the 60 finals (6.83). He also was 19th in the 200 (21.52). During the outdoor season, he qualified for the regional meet in the 100, 200 and the 4x100-meter relay. Morris placed 15th in the 100 (10.62) and 19th in the 200 (21.32). The 4x100 relay recorded a season-best time of 38.90 and placed seventh. Â
HIGH SCHOOL: Morris won a pair of national championships in the 60-meter dash during his senior year, one at Nike Nationals and the other at the Simplot Games. In high school, Morris ran the fifth-best time nationally in the 60 for high school runners at 6.65. He was the Colorado State 4A 100-meter dash champion and was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams that placed at the state championship. The former Demon owns school records in the 100, 200 and long jump at GHS.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Morris intends to major in business at Colorado and is interested in writing.Â
PERSONAL: Joseph Benjamin Morris was born on October 4, 1989 in Denver, Colo. He is the son of Ben and Joyce Morris. Morris has a twin sister, Andi, who runs track at CSU-Pueblo, and twin younger brothers, Xander and Silas. Morris lists his hobbies as writing and running. He started running during his junior year.
