Nebraska-Colorado Notes

January 30, 2010 | Women's Basketball

Colorado drops to 12-8 overall, 2-5 in Big 12 play. It is the third straight loss for the Buffaloes and fifth in the last six outings.

With the win, Nebraska wins just its sixth game in Boulder (6-25) and narrows the Colorado lead in the series to 39-27. This game ties CU's series with Missouri as the most played in team history.

Colorado drops its 16th straight game against a ranked opponent and 13th straight to a team ranked in both the AP and WBCA Coaches poll (Iowa State was ranked only in the WBCA poll in the meeting earlier this season as was Kansas State in two meetings in 2008-09). CU's last win over a ranked opponent was a 73-68 home win over No. 15/15 Kansas State on Feb. 23, 2008.

Colorado drops to 50-122 all-time against ranked teams.

Nebraska, No. 6 (AP)/No. 4 (WBCA) is the highest ranked opponent CU has played since No. 3/2 Oklahoma visited the Coors Events Center on Jan. 21, 2009.

Freshman guard Chucky Jeffery registers her first career double-double finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The 11 rebounds are also a career high.

Colorado's only lead of the game came with 15:44 left to play in the first half on a lay-up by Chucky Jeffery giving the Buffs a 7-6 edge.  The Buffs fought off two 14-point leads that Nebraska built up going into halftime trailing by 8, 37-29.

-Colorado shot three of nine from beyond the three-point line (33.3%) in the first half.  Senior guard Bianca Smith was two of four shooting from the three-point line, and finished 3-of-7. Smith moves her 3-point career total to 235 leaving her just 17 shy of Shelley Sheetz's all time mark of 252 set from 1991-95.

Nebraska opened up the second half on a 13-8 run in the first six minutes of the half, giving them a 50-37 advantage.  The Buffs countered with a 7-0 run of their own over a span of 2:32 bringing Colorado to within six points at 50-44, led by freshman forward Meagan Malcolm-Peck's three point basket.

-Nebraska's 80 points on the night is the second highest point total given up by the Buffs this season.  Minnesota recorded 87 points on November 22 earlier this season.

Colorado has had at least three players score in double digits in 16 of their 20 games this season (Smith 14, Jeffery 14, Brittany Spears 10, and Courtney Dunn 10).  This is the sixth game that Colorado has seen four players score in double figures.

Colorado had two players foul out of tonight's game (Dunn, M. Malcolm-Peck) this is the third game in a row where the Buffs have seen at least one player foul out.
