Baylor-Colorado Notes

February 07, 2010 | Women's Basketball

No. 15 (AP)/17 (WBCA) Baylor wins its sixth straight game over Colorado and improves its series lead to 10-8.

Colorado drops its 17th straight game against a ranked opponent and 14th straight to a team ranked in both the AP and WBCA Coaches poll (Iowa State was ranked only in the WBCA poll in the meeting earlier this season as was Kansas State in two meetings in 2008-09). CU's last win over a ranked opponent was a 73-68 home win over No. 15/15 Kansas State on Feb. 23, 2008.

Colorado drops to 50-123 all-time against ranked teams.

Colorado has lost four straight, its longest such streak of the season, and six of its last seven. Colorado drops its 19th straight game on the road against a Big 12 Conference Southern Division opponent dating back to a 69-59 win at Baylor on Jan. 7, 2004.

Colorado's 42 points are a season low and fewest since scoring just 32 at Texas on Jan. 17, 2009.

Colorado shot just 23.6 percent (13-of-55) its lowest percentage since shooting 23.2 (13-of-56) at Texas on Feb. 23, 2005.

Colorado had 17 turnovers in the first half, a season-most for either half. The Buffaloes regrouped with just five in the second half.

After Colorado led 10-9 at the 14:57 mark of the first half, Baylor outscored CU 24-5 the rest of the period, including a 10-0 run over the final 6:52.

Freshman Chucky Jeffery matched a career high with five steals, a number she reaches for the fourth time this season (Ga. Southern, Yale, Missouri).

Freshman Melissa MacFarlane played a career best 12 minutes

Junior Brittany Spears was held to nine points, just the second time this season she's been held under double digits (Texas Tech)

Baylor's Brittney Griner tied a opponent record with 11 blocked shots, matching the total of Pauline Jordan of UNLV set on March 18, 1989. Her five blocks in the first half were one more than the Buffaloes had against them in a game this season.
