Thweatt Takes Fourth In 10k

PALO ALTO, Calif. ? University of Colorado junior Laura Thweatt became the 10th fastest Buff in the 10,000-meter run late Friday night at the Stanford Invitational.

 

Thweatt's time of 34 minutes, 34.41 seconds was the fourth best time in the second section of the 10k. This was her debut in the event and is the quickest time recorded since Christine Bolf in 2006. Thweatt was just 17.76 seconds off the pace of Iowa State's Semehar Tesfave who won the section in 34:16.65.

 

Freshman Jhenya Nahreini was also in the same heat and finished 28th overall. She recorded a time of 36:00.78.

 

The CU men also raced in the 10k. They were led by Aldo Vega who recorded a time of 29:15.57 for 18th place. Vega's mark made him the 11th best performer in the event. Jordan Kyle took 20th overall (29:20.97) and Andy Wacker was 22nd after running a personal best time of 29:31.03 to become the 15th best Buff in the event. Michigan's Lex Williams won the section with a mark of 28:34.28.

 

The Buffs have two meets on tap for next weekend. The multi events will compete at the Jim Click Shootout April 1 and 2 in Tucson, Ariz. and the rest of the squad will compete at the Tom Benich Invite April 3 in Greeley, Colo.
