Coburn Runs 10th Best Time In CU History

SEATTLE, Wash. – In an effort to qualify for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, University of Colorado sophomore Emma Coburn raced to the 10th fastest mile time in CU history at the UW Final Qualifier on Saturday.

Coburn ran a personal record 4 minutes, 42.56 seconds, dropping 1.31 seconds off her time from last weekend's conference championship (4:43.87). She currently ranks 31st in the nation.

Coburn came in fourth overall at the meet and was the third highest collegiate finisher. Southern Utah's Sharla Manuele won the race in 4:39.82 and Nebraska's Ashley Miller was second (4:40.50).

The top time in the women's mile this year is 4:31.24. Last year the NCAA took 17 individuals to the start in the mile prelims. Coburn could advance to the NCAA meet if enough athletes in front of her decided to race in another event. The declarations for the national meet are due on Monday, March 8. The NCAA Championship is March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
