Tennis Competes at Irvine Invitational

In singles, the Buffaloes achieved a 3-1 record with senior Ania Anuszkiewicz, and sophomores Winde Janssens and Kristina Schleich all winning in straight sets. Schleich edged Sasha Carter of Montana, 6-3, 7-5 for her team best seventh singles win of the fall; Janssens secured her sixth victory with a three-set winner over Irvine's Kristin Smith, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(8); and Anuszkiewicz blanked Thanh Doan of Cal Riverside, 6-0, 6-0.
Janssens improved her year-and-a-half record playing in three sets to 5-4, in addition winning her third career match after rallying from a set down.
In doubles, CU did not fare as well going 1-3 on the day.
Anuszkiewicz and Janssens blanked California Riverside's Natalie McKay and Thanh Doan, 8-0.
Sunday's competition begins at 8 a.m. and will be the final day of the UCI Invite. CU will be idle the rest of the calendar year until resuming dual match play to open the spring 2012 season, Jan. 20 at home against Air Force.
