Buffs Shine In 5k At Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. - University of Colorado distance runners Joe Bosshard and Laura Thweatt led the Buffs in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night at the Flotrack Husky Classic.
Bosshard placed ninth overall after finishing his debut 5k race in 13 minutes, 49.59 seconds. With the time he became the seventh-fastest performer in the event at CU and ran the ninth-fastest mark in school history. On the women's side, Thweatt became the ninth-fastest Buff in the 5k after clocking a personal record of 16:17.39 to place 19th overall.
Richard Medina also set a PR at Husky Classic in the 5k. He crossed the finish in 13:57.20 to break the 14 minute mark and improve his best time by almost seven seconds (14:04.24). Medina placed 15th in his heat and 19th overall. Matt Tebo placed 18th in the same section, 22nd overall, after finishing in 13:59.12.
Andy Wacker and Christian Thompson ran in the fourth section of the 5k and placed 26th and 32nd overall. Wacker finished with a PR of 14:03.41, eighth in the heat, and Thompson ran a PR of 14:08.05, 11th in the heat.
On the women's side, Shalaya Kipp placed 25th overall, ninth in her section, with her PR of 16:28. 56. Her previous best time had been 17:02.27. Katie Cumming finished the race in 16:28.80, just behind Kipp for 26th-place (10th in her heat) and another PR for the Buffs. Thweatt, Kipp and Cumming ran in the third section of 5k, but the Buffs had another woman, Camille Logan, who raced in the second section. Logan won that section in 16:38.18 to place 32nd overall.
