Tebo, Thweatt Lead CU 5k Runners At Mt. SAC

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Colorado track and field team had a great showing late Friday night in the 5,000-meter runs at the Mt. SAC Relays with all eight runners recording personal bests.
Matt Tebo led the men in the Olympic Development Elite section, placing fourth overall with a time of 13 minutes, 44.03 seconds. It was a six second improvement from his former PR of 13:50.17 and made him the 10th fastest performer in CU history.
The race was very close as the second-place finisher and the ninth-place runner were separated by just 5.57 seconds. Richard Medina took sixth in the race, running a time of 13:44.34, just .31 seconds behind Tebo. Joe Bosshard was in the same section as Tebo and Medina and finished 23rd overall. He clocked a time of 14:05.31.
Martin Medina ran in the Open A section and finished in 14:25.22 to take 30th overall.
The women were led by senior Laura Thweatt who placed fifth in the Olympic Development Elite section. She clocked a 14.31 second PR after crossing the finish in 15:57.24 to make her the ninth fastest CU performer in the event as well as the ninth Buffalo female to run a sub-16-minute 5k. Thweatt's previous PR of 16:11.55 was set in 2010.
Shalaya Kipp won the Open B section in 16:01.26, improving from a 16:29.38 PR set last year. That time moved Kipp to 10th on the CU performer's list behind Thweatt. Katie Cumming placed third overall in the same section, clocking the 12th fastest CU performer time of 16:10.85. Camille Logan raced to a sixth-place finish in that section. She crossed the finish in 16:15.19, the 13th fastest by a CU woman.
