Women's Golf Finishes 10th At Clover Cup

Ariz. - The University of Colorado women's golf team slid one spot to finish
10th here Sunday at the 2013 Notre Dame Clover Cup. Led by junior Jenny
Coleman, the Buffaloes shot a 16-over par 304 in the final round to complete
the 54-hole event with a 49-over par 913.
Sixteen teams competed at the par 72, 6,209-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa,
Ariz. The Buffs were in seventh after shooting a 13-over par 301, but fell two
spots later that day in the second round, shooting a 20-over par 308. This is
the third time this season the Buffs have finished in the top 10.
"As I've been saying all along, we're close, but we just haven't shot competitive
scores yet," said CU head coach Anne Kelly. "We're close, but just not
converting birdies, which we need to be doing to be shooting competitively. The
players know what to work on, and I think we're working on all right things. We
just need to be able to convert that into a tournament. We're close, but we're
not quite there yet,"
No. 5 Oklahoma continued to dominate the event winning by 18 strokes to finish
with a 2-under par 862 after shooting a 4-over par 292 in the final round. Once
again, three other ranked teams followed behind to round out the top five. No.
34 SMU remained in second place with a 16-over par 880. No. 16 Texas Tech
returned to third, finishing an 18-over par 882. After ending Saturday at
seventh place, Tulsa jumped to fourth place with a 27-over par 891. Host No. 22
Notre Dame moved up to claim fifth, finishing a 28-over par 892.
A team-best 1-under par 71 in the final round helped Jennifer Coleman jump 12
spots to finish tied for 15th. Coleman shot her best in the final round to finish
5-over par 221. Coleman shot at par 36 times.
"Jenny's hitting like a tour pro," Kelly said. "She just needs to get a putt to
drop, and she could be in contention for all of our tournaments. Like I said,
she's hitting like a tour pro. It's not that she's putting poorly, she just
needs to get some birdies to drop, and that comes with time. I know it's frustrating
for her because she knows how close she is, but this game takes patience."
Alexis Keating ended the event tied for 34th. She shot a 7-over par 79 in the
final round, finishing with a 12-over par 228. Keating tied Jenny Coleman with
36 pars at the event.
Megan Haase finished just shy of the top 50, tied for 54th. Kelly said Haase
battled through some difficulties and came back after a rough start to conclude
the event with a 16-over par 232 after shooting 7-over par 79 in the final
round.
Jamie Oleksiew improved two spots to tie for 66th. She matched her second round
performance, shooting a 6-over par 78 to finish 20-over par 236.
Kristin Coleman jumped 10 spots to tie for 72nd after shooting her best round
on Sunday, a 4-over par 76. Coleman finished a 22-over par 238.
Allie Zech tied teammate Keating for 34th. Competing as an individual, Zech
trimmed two strokes off her second round and four strokes off her first round
performances, shooting a 2-over par 74. Zech finished a 12-over par 228. Zech
tied an event-best 40 pars.
Devin Dougherty rounded out the Buffs individual performers, finishing the
event a 39-over par 255 for 94th place.
The Buffs conclude the month in Maui, Hawaii for the Anuenue Spring Break
Challenge at The Bay Course at Kapalua. Action begins on Monday, March 25 and
continues through Wednesday, March 27.
